How the Tropical Climate Drains Your Refrigerant

Refrigerant gas does not burn off or evaporate in a sealed system. If your aircond is suddenly blowing weak cool air in Cheras, the real culprit is almost always a slow leak somewhere along the copper line, the flare nut, or the internal coil itself. The constant humidity and the vibration of nearby elevated expressways like SUKE and BESRAYA put steady stress on older brazed joints, and flare nuts loosen faster than most homeowners realise. By the time you notice the air feels lukewarm, the unit has probably been losing pressure for weeks.

Our standalone aircond gas top-up Cheras service supplies R22, R410A and R32 for every common residential and light-commercial split unit, and every top-up visit includes a full pressure test so you understand exactly why the gas was low in the first place.

Matching the Right Gas to Your Unit

There are three refrigerants still in regular circulation in Malaysian homes. Pouring the wrong one into your system will wreck the compressor, so we always verify the type against the nameplate before touching the service port.

  • R22. The legacy refrigerant found in pre-2015 units. It is being phased out globally under the Montreal Protocol, which makes it more expensive per kilogram each year.
  • R410A. The standard in inverter and non-inverter models from roughly 2010 to 2018. Still widely stocked across KL.
  • R32. The current factory-fill for all new aircond units from 2018 onwards. Lower global warming potential, better energy efficiency, and increasingly the cheapest option per kilogram.

If you are not sure which refrigerant your unit uses, check the sticker on the outdoor condenser. Alternatively, send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will identify it in a few minutes.

Why We Pressure-Test Before We Charge

Pumping fresh gas into a leaking system is the classic aircond scam in the Klang Valley. You pay for the refill, the unit cools for two weeks, and then you are back where you started. Worse, the technician pockets a tidy profit for a job that did not solve anything.

We run the same pressure-test protocol on every top-up visit in Cheras, whether the booking is residential or commercial:

  1. Gauge attachment. Manifold gauges go onto the low and high service ports.
  2. Baseline reading. Pressure is compared against the factory specification for your specific HP rating and refrigerant.
  3. Leak hunting. Soap bubble test on flare nuts and an electronic sniffer along brazed joints.
  4. Minor leak repair. Small pinhole leaks can often be soldered on the spot at no extra charge.
  5. Vacuum pumping. The system is evacuated before the fresh charge to prevent moisture contamination.
  6. Measured charge. Refrigerant is added to factory spec using a precision digital scale, not by guesswork.

If we find a serious leak that cannot be soldered, we stop, explain the options in writing, and let you decide whether to proceed with repair or deferral. We never pressure anyone into same-day work.

Transparent Top-Up Pricing

Our rates are flat and published upfront. No surprise fuel fees, no inflated transport charges for local Cheras jobs, and no upsells if you refuse them.

  • R22 top-up (1.0HP to 1.5HP) from RM150
  • R410A top-up (1.5HP to 2.5HP) from RM100
  • R32 top-up (1.5HP to 2.5HP) from RM80
  • Minor leak soldering included where possible, otherwise quoted separately
  • Commercial cassette and VRF units quoted per site after inspection

The Smarter Choice: Bundle It With a Chemical Wash

Every aircond service Cheras chemical wash booking already includes up to 10kg of free refrigerant top-up. For nearly every residential 1.5HP to 2.5HP split unit, that is a complete refill at zero additional cost. If you are overdue for a chemical wash and you also need a top-up, booking the chemical wash package saves you the entire standalone gas fee of RM80 to RM250.

Commercial clients around Cheras Business Centre and the F&B cluster in Taman Maluri should ask about our maintenance contracts. Bundling the annual chemical wash and gas checks on a rolling schedule works out cheaper than paying for emergency callouts later.

Should You Top Up Gas Yourself?

The short answer is no, and it is worth explaining why. DIY gas kits sold online almost always provide the wrong pressure reading, rarely include a vacuum pump, and never allow proper leak detection. A careless recharge can overcharge the compressor and destroy a unit that was perfectly repairable. Malaysia’s Department of Environment also classifies refrigerant handling as a regulated activity, which is why our technicians are EPA and DOE compliant for both R22 recovery and R32 charging.

If your unit is under manufacturer warranty, an unofficial top-up will void it instantly. Always use a certified technician, keep the receipt, and ask for a written leak test record.
